Sanjay Nirupam calls for a Mumbai Bandh on September 10 to protest against the skyrocketing fuel prices* *Urges all political parties across the city to show active participation against the BJP Govt* *Mumbai:* Mumbai Congress under the leadership of the Unit President Sanjay Nirupam has declared a bandh across Mumbai to protest against the skyrocketing fuel prices. He has also urged all political parties to actively participate in the bandh for the larger good. Sanjay Nirupam said, “The Prices of petrol and Diesel have witnessed a sharp rise. Despite the consistent fall in the price of crude oil internationally, the Modi Govt has been blaiming the price hike on the price of crude oil. Every section of the society is facing a serious blow due to the price hike. With an increase in the petrol price, every middle class household’s monthly budget has been disrupted. Hike in Diesel prices has been affecting the farmers who are already struggling to make their ends meet”. The Mumbai Congress President further said, “Mumbai is the financial capital of the country. If the financial capital comes to a halt for a day, the cries of the common people will reach those sitting in Delhi. We need to show the BJP Govt that the voices of those affected by their atrocious rule cannot be silenced anymore”. Urging all the political parties in Mumbai to unite against the atrocious rule of the BJP, Sanjay Nirupam also stated that alongwith Indian National Congress (INC), multiple political parties like National Congress Party (NCP), CPI, CPI (M), Janata Dal led by Sharad Yadav, Republican Party Of India (Jogendra Kavade Group), Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatan will be present too. Senior NCP Leader Nawab Malik who was also present said, “It is only because of the BJP Govt that the common people are paying unnecessarily extra for fuel and cooking gas. Under the rule of the UPA Govt, the excise duty levied on petrol was Rs. 8/ litre while that on diesel was Rs. 3/ litre. However, under the BJP Govt the excise duty being levied on petrol and Diesel has reached Rs. 19/ litre and Rs. 15/ litre. Why is drought tax still imposed on fuel when there has been no drought-like situation in the state for the past 3 years?” Mr. Nirupam has appealed Mumbaikars to stay in their homes and avoid going out. He has also urged everyone to refrain from commuting in private as well as public transport systems. While the bandh bas received support from all the bank unions, Insurance Companies, Autorickshaw and taxi Unions, Aahar (Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association), 36 market associations across the city. However, Schools, Colleges and Hospitals will be open and functioning. Sanjay Nirupam alongwith other party leaders will also hit the street on Sunday and interact with the common people urging them to show their support to the bandh against the infernal rule of the BJP Govt.
